Here it is March! Wow, 2018 is flying by. It feels like it was just New Year’s Eve and I was just pondering my new One Word for the year of 2018.
2017 was somewhat a strange year for me filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows with my physical, mental and emotional well-being. When January 1st came around, I had decided that it was time for me to take charge of my destiny and become more intentional and proactive in living my life.
I decided that my word for 2018 would be INTENTIONAL! That’s a great word, right? My head said “yes” but something just didn’t jive. I decided to reread the book, Get One Word by Jon Gordon. In his book, Jon says to ask God to give you your word. I decided to pray about it and ask God to guide my thoughts and let me know what my word should be. I started to pray and I didn’t even complete the first sentence when I had a word penetrate my thoughts and interrupt me. I shrugged it away because it didn’t make a lot of sense to me. Okay God, let me try this again… “Lord, please guide me and reveal…” There it was again! I kept trying to shrug it off and there was just no denying that God was answering my prayer, but in a surprising way. I thought, “God, surely this can’t be the word that you are giving me. I just don’t think that is an area where I need growth or have any weaknesses in.” Nonetheless, I decided to obey and ask God to direct me and show me how to incorporate this word into my everyday life.
Over the course of the next few weeks, this word was everywhere! It was on books, and jewelry, and scriptures, and clothing and … everywhere!
My favorite book that I was reading at the time that I had absolutely fallen in love with was, well, about that very word and I hadn’t even realized it.
I prayed “God, please show me what you are saying to me and how I need to grow and learn from this word!”
What’s my word? It’s pretty elementary and simple yet so life-changing.
Over the last few months, I have realized some things about my actions and reactions toward God, myself and those around me in relation to my 2018 One Word — LOVE. I’ll keep you updated on the things I am learning on this journey!
Love & Hugs,
